Toyota has issued a Prius recall for 340,000 of its 2016-2017 Prius models due to a problem its parking brake.  The parking brake can fail and the car could roll away and crash.  It is not known whether any injuries or deaths have occurred due to this parking brake failure.

Toyota said in a statement that dealers “will add clips on the top of the brake cable dust boots to prevent the cable from becoming inoperative.”  Repairs will be free and Prius owners will be notified in November.

Fiat Chrysler recalled 1.1 million cars in April due to a gear selector problem that caused confusion about whether the car was in park.  One of these cars, a 2015 Grand Cherokee, killed actor Anton Yelchin when it rolled down his driveway and pinned him to a brick post.
