Ocella Injuries

The drugs Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella are oral contraceptives made by the corporate drug giant Bayer that  have raised some serious health concerns recently for the millions of women taking them. Yaz was one of the top-selling birth controls over the last few years, largely due to the marketing efforts of Bayer. The differences between Yaz and its ancestors in the contraceptive world is the the chemical Drospirenon, which replaces the long used active ingredient levongestrol.

Bayer’s marketing of Yaz has been strongly aimed at women under the age of 35 for 3 primary purposes: as an effective oral contraceptive, as a treatment for slight to moderate acne for women taking a contraceptive, and as a treatment for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) for women taking a contraceptive, which were also reasons approved by the Food and Drug Administration for taking the drug.

The US Drug Watchdog, a private advocacy group has put forth considerable effort to spread the word of the adverse health risks of Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella. The side effects of the drugs include:

  • Stroke
  • Heart Attack
  • Blood Clots in Lungs-Pulmonary Embolism
  • Blood Clots in Legs-Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
  • Gallbladder Disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Sudden death
