These tips can help you survive the busiest travel holiday of the year and arrive at your destination safely.
Leave Town Early!
The worst traffic will be the Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. If you can’t leave before then, you might be better off traveling early on Thanksgiving morning. The worst day to travel back on is Saturday after Thanksgiving.
With gas prices low, fueling up won’t be as painful this year. Don’t head out on a long trip without a full tank of gas. Also check fluids and tire pressures before you leave.
If the traffic is bad or if you are tired at the wheel, make a pit stop to rejuvenate so you arrive at your destination in good spirits.
Check the weather
It’s a good idea to check the weather conditions before setting out on your drive. Right now the only rain in the 10 day forecast in Mississippi is on Wednesday and Sunday.
Don’t be distracted Cell phones and driving can be a lethal combination, so if you need to send a message or make a call, hand your phone to a passenger or pull over. It’s not worth risking your life or others on the road.
Expect to hit traffic. Be as patient as possible when driving in congested areas. By doing this, you are creating a more pleasant environment and also protecting your own health by managing your stress. Keep in mind that everyone else on the road is trying to get to loved one’s home as well.
Hope that you have a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday!
