Is Football Season Weighing You Down?

The typical tailgate spread consists of fried foods, chips and dips, and beer. While these foods are ok in moderation it’s hard not to go overboard. There are healthier options to all the high-fat foods and alcohol that are abundant at tailgating and football parties.
Grill, Baby, Grill! When it comes to meat, grilled is better than fried. Choose the lean beef for your burgers and make the patties the size of a deck of cards. Think sliders instead of big macs. Grill chicken strips and vegetable skewers. Zucchini, corn and peppers are all great on the grill.
Use vegetables instead of chips for dipping. Salsa and bean dips, like hummus, are healthier than the mayo-based and cheesy dips.
As for alcohol, moderation is key. When you drink too much, it can cause you to eat more.
Don’t forget to drink water. Sparkling flavored water is better than those with sugar or even fake sugars. Plain old water can be refreshing with a slice of lemon or lime.
Keep these tips in mind during this football season and your heart and waistline will be thankful!
